Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a comprehensive and exceptionally gentle therapy. It enables contact with the membranes, bones, fluids and fascia (fine connective tissue) throughout the body and, through them, with the central nervous system. The brain and spinal cord are cushioned and nourished by cerebrospinal fluid enclosed in the layers of membrane which line the cranium (skull) and the bony spine: the vertebral column.

IslaI find it interesting to consider that when you sit by a calm sea, the spinal fluid at the core of your nervous system is flowing in a similar rhythm of 6-1, 2 cycles per minute. As we allow ourselves to experience this level of connectedness, we are eventually taken deeper to an awareness of 'a body of fluid that has the breath of life' (William Sutherland).

I use a gentle, focused touch, placing my hands on the head or other appropriate part of the body, and invite the subtle twists, pulls and asymmetries reflected throughout the system to realign themselves according to their own particular pattern of balance and movement.

This way of working enables the self healing process and has been found by many people to be especially effective in aiding the re-establishment of a sense of harmony following illness, accident or injury and the after-effects of birth trauma (for both baby and mother). The body holds memories of our experiences and these can be released to beneficial effect, contributing to a state of well-being, which is both restorative and nourishing. My clients are always advised to seek the expertise of the medical profession when appropriate and many doctors support the additional benefit craniosacral therapy can offer their patients.

Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open you would be paralysed; your  deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings.
